Reji currently resides with her family and pets outside of Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. She's proud to add that she was recently made a part of the
academic enrichment programming for the prestigious Brookfield Academy for
the 2011-2012 school year. Reji spent a great number of years prior to the present
away from her home state. During that time, Ms. Laberje happily worked in
many job fields, some of which include television in Chicago, serving the
United States Air Force as an Arabic Linguist stationed throughout the
country, teaching middle school outside of Washington, D.C., managing a
big-box bookstore in Southern Maryland and, for most of those years,
simultaneously working as an author and presenter of children’s fiction
throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
Along the way, Reji
found her husband, a fellow veteran and current computer program manager,
with whom she maintains an active lifestyle that includes family, friends,
scouting, and church, as well as charity races, outdoor activities, volunteerism in
many arenas, philanthropic efforts, and continuing education. The two are busily raising their three
equally (or perhaps more) active children.
(They're more amazing than she could
ever have dreamed.) She also receives priceless encouragement
from her two wonderful sisters, each talented in wondrous ways, and the
greatest best friend for whom a grown up gal could ever hope.
Reji’s education has been constant, broad, and varied,
compiling credits in International communications (before changing her major
to English) from
the Air Force, colleges throughout Maryland and accredited exams taken
during her military career. Her colleges to date include:
Community College of the Air Force, Defense Language Institute Foreign
Language School, Howard Community College, University of Maryland University
College, College of Southern Maryland, and UW Waukesha.
Besides formal schooling, Reji has taken countless
accredited literacy, creative writing, management and educational workshops,
seminars, tests and classes over the span of many years. Education is
vital in maintaining a connection with her audience that extends beyond her
ability to create and present books. In addition to her own unique methods, Reji maintains current knowledge on popular and accepted reading, writing,
and teaching techniques and on changes and trends in children’s literature
and the aspects of education and life that can be enhanced by that
literature. Reji believes, while embracing the new world of reading
brought to us by technology, that the foundations of
reading and writing remain constant, so she considers her assemblies, workshops, and
other programs to be timeless in
nature and infused with the enthusiasm and encouragement she gets and gives
from the written word.
Reji
has been writing for her entire life and, in addition to her current
publications, she has dabbled in - among other things - playwriting, poetry,
sports editorials, and Christian-inspired work (particularly for young children). She fears
no genre and looks at each as a great experiment in literacy. Ms. Laberje´s
experience in the field of juvenile fiction dates back to 1997. Her written
works have appeared in publications currently available through Amazon,
major book store chains and distributors, and her website. She's also
been featured in student publications, online, in production on school and community stages, and
in teachings used in schools and churches. Reji´s programs, writing
workshops, and storytelling of classic, contemporary, and
original works have been utilized by scouting groups, schools, bookstores, USO
children's groups, home education co-ops, and many other organizations.
Proceeds
from every single Reji Laberje book are given to worthy causes including The Leukemia
and Lymphoma Society, Special Olympics, The National Coalition Against
Domestic Violence, ASPCA, and HEROES, Inc. She also donates to
scouting organizations and other non-profit causes.
Reji Laberje has
remained happily at the forefront of education, empowerment and
entertainment through juvenile fiction for the better part of her young and
adult life. With many more stories to tell and supportive loved ones by
her side, she expects to remain there for
as long as she has an audience eager for her contributions and the ability
to continue to make them!
